Harpers Top 50 Sommeliers for 2025 celebrate diversity

Since 2022, Wines of Roussillon have been the proud partners of Harpers Wine & Spirit’s Top 50 Sommeliers, a yearly celebration of the sommelier profession in the UK. This initiative acknowledges the best in the industry, with an emphasis on the quality of drinks lists. It also takes into account how well rounded the candidates are, regardless of their position or the type of restaurant they work in.

“What informs judging decisions” specifies Andrew Catchpole, Harpers Wine & Spirit’s Editor “are aspects of innovation and inventiveness on the list” but also “nominee’s education and experience, communication, innovation, leadership and vision.”  He further states that the Top 50 is more than a ranking and should be viewed as a celebration of the quality and diversity of sommeliers in the UK.

Eric Aracil at Wines from Roussillon comments: “It is always a pleasure to witness first-hand the level of dedication, professionalism and passion displayed by UK sommeliers. Their global wine knowledge is to be applauded, and it is hard to name one country whose wines are not represented on British restaurants’ lists currently. The dedication to guests’ enjoyment and discovery, as well as the inventiveness and story-telling skills of UK-based sommeliers is really impressive. For wines like our own, that need to be explained and nurtured, their work is invaluable’.
