Dishing the dirt on Roussillon’s Terroirs
A series of educational masterclasses, developed in partnership with Sommelier Edit, brings insights into the terroirs and flavour profiles of Roussillon’s top AOPs and IGPs.
The first masterclass, presented by Stefan Neumann MS and the CIVR’s Eric Aracil, took place in London in March. It will soon be followed by a second, to be hosted at Wilderness Restaurant in Birmingham, on 2 June by sommeliers Sonal Clare and Stefan Neumann MS.
Roussillon’s tumultuous geological history and resulting soil and subsoil diversity have created an extraordinary patchwork of micro-terroirs. How this influences the styles and profiles of the wines produced in the different appellations or villages of Roussillon is a complex yet fascinating topic.
From the limestone and chalky soils of Tautavel and Vingrau, to the Pebbles of Les Aspres, by way of topography and human influence, our presenters set to offer a whistle-stop tour of some of Roussillon’s hallmark styles.
The tasting will feature 13 wines and include dry IGPs and AOPs, alongside some Vins Doux Naturels. Places are available to all sommeliers and on-trade buyers, on a first-come first-served basis.
