Grenaches du Monde 2026 – The results
After conquering Manhattan, charming Paris and bringing the world of Garnacha together in Aragón, Grenaches du Monde staged a symbolic and eagerly awaited return to Roussillon.
The 2026 Grenaches du Monde competition took place from May 10 to 13 in the beautiful seaside town of Argelès-sur-Mer.
This return to Roussillon marked an important stage in the competition’s journey. By reconnecting with its origins, Grenaches du Monde confirmed its ambition to celebrate a universal grape variety, showcase the plurality of its expressions, and its power of adaptability in a changing wine world.
Roussillon placed sustainability at the heart of the competition and highlighted the relevance of Grenache as a resilient grape variety, capable of facing climate challenges.
The region’s dynamic enotourism industry, the skills of its producers and the richness of a heritage – 2026 sees AOP Maury celebrate its 90th anniversary – gave this year’s competition a uniquely profound historical dimension.
“Returning to Roussillon meant reconnecting with the living roots of Grenache. It is here that this grape variety found a personality, a strength and a style. Hosting the 2026 edition in the land that accompanied our competition’s first steps is both a tribute to our origins and a sign of the future: that of a resilient, modern and profoundly universal grape variety.” — Fabrice Rieu, President of Grenaches du Monde.
Around sixty international judges, from some twenty countries, including the United States, Japan, Germany, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, the United Kingdom, France, Andorra, Spain and Italy gathered in Argelès-sur-Mer.
Together, they awarded just short of 300 medals, split over three tiers (Double Gold, Gold and Silver) and two categories (single varietal and blend). At the top of the podium, Double Gold medals came from Aragon, Catalunya, Languedoc, Sardinia, Veneto and Roussillon (the latter singlehandedly snapping up half of the medals). Roussillon’s top scorers perfectly showcased the versatility of Grenache: from dry Côtes du Roussillon AOP Rosé, IGP Côtes Catalanes reds, to white (Ambré) and red (Grenat) Rivesaltes AOP Vins Doux Naturels.
