Grenaches du Monde: Cariñena and Zaragoza host 2025 competition in Aragon, Spain
After taking a bite out of the Big Apple in 2023 and producing an Olympic performance in Paris last year, Grenaches du Monde is returning to Aragon, nine years after the competition was last held in this emblematic terroir for the Grenache grape variety.
Grenaches du Monde is an international, itinerant competition that celebrates the culture and expertise of Grenache producers and of the regions that make Grenache wines in all styles: red, rosé, white, sweet, rancio or sparkling.
This thirteenth edition of Grenaches du Monde will be hosted by the Cariñena Denomination of Origin, in partnership with the towns of Zaragoza, the Grenache capital of the world, and Cariñena. The latter has recently been awarded the title of ‘European City of Wine 2025’ and promises to deliver an exceptional event celebrating Grenache in all its glorious diversity.
A jury of around 80 international wine experts will select the top Grenache wines at a rigorous blind tasting set to take place in Cariñena on 5 and 6 May.
Roussillon wine producers took home 64 medals out of a total of 318 in 2024. A strong performance that sets high standards and hopes for Roussillon’s grenaches in 2025.
The competition Grenaches du Monde was created in 2013 by the Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins du Roussillon (CIVR) in Perpignan.
